At its session on Wednesday, the Cabinet supported the intention of the Justice Ministry to wind down military courts. A draft bill on their dissolution suggests their merging with selected general courts. The ministry argues that military courts have much less of an agenda than general courts. The reason is the fact that their jurisdiction has been significantly curtailed, leading to a reduction in their number of cases. At present, they deal only with the agenda of the Slovak Army. In addition to this, as the ministry argues, the state will not have to finance four separate budgetary organizations, which can also fulfill their tasks effectively within the system of general courts.

The cases of military courts will be shifted to general courts. Legal disputes will be dealt with in district courts, while regional courts will serve as appellate courts.
